Find Help: Special Education
The policy area of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in education is vast. In addition to the complexities which accompany SEND, there are extensive legal requirements in relation to EHCP's. With both SEND and EHCP pupil number on the rise, we ask what are the Government and local authorities doing to improve the educational experiences of children who start education with a disadvantage.

On 29 March 2022, the Government published the SEND Review: Right support, right place, right time, a consultation on the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision system in England. The consultation sets out proposed reforms to the SEND and alternative provision (AP) system that seek to address three key challenges:
- poor outcomes for children and young people with SEN or in alternative provision
- navigating the SEND system and alternative provision is not a positive experience for children, young people, and their families and;
- despite unprecedented investment, the system is not delivering value for money for children, young people and families.
The Traveller Movement is currently in the process of responding to this consultation so we have temporarily taken down Our Mission while we develop our ideas and recommendations in response to this review.
As we are currently developing our stance in relation to the Government review, we would value hearing about your experiences with SEND in schools. Perhaps you child has SEND, or even an EHCP, let us know your experiences, whether you just have feedback or if you want to share a bad experience, please reach out. All contributions will be kept confidential and will be used to inform our policy and recommendations to the Government.
